Michael Newman, Director for CSPP Alumni Relations
Welcome to our CSPP Alumni News Stream brief items about the CSPP Alumni community, its activities, and accomplishments.
We were recently informed that Dr. Lelia McCain Veaco, CSPP-Fresno Founding Faculty, has passed away at the age of 89. Our deepest condolences to her family, friends and former colleagues & students.
Please click here to read her obituary online. In part, it says, “After teaching part-time at Fresno State, in 1973 Lelia began her final career at the newly formed California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) where she was a core faculty member. This private school became accredited and offered the doctoral degree in clinical psychology. Some of Lelia’s many contributions included her courses on lifespan development, principles of adult learning, dissertation proposal development and dissertation writing. Dr. Veaco interviewed prospective students and sat on many doctoral committees providing invaluable support to her students through this long, difficult endeavor. In 1997 Lelia retired from CSPP at age 74.”
Dr. Sue Kuba, CSPP-Fresno PsyD Program Director, fondly remembers Lelia: “She was deeply loved by the Fresno campus community and her retirement party was a real celebration of her contributions, with nearly 300 people attending a formal event at a local country club,” said Dr. Kuba. “She was also one of the founding faculty members in Fresno, who worked initially without pay while the campus here was established. She had a passion for education, especially for teaching using multiple modalities and using multi-media. Today, she would have been an advanced user of our technologies. She herself said that she never gave up on a student in her career with us. Always a class act.”
